Understanding your internet usage.

In this page, we will give you some understanding how to manage your wireless or internet usage and how to calculate you’re performing network experience.

Bandwidth refers to the rate of data transfer in a network and is measured in bits per second (bit/s). In order to rely on a fast and effective network, it is extremely relevant to know how many bits per second are transmitted across your network. Indeed, a low bandwidth implies slow connection and it negatively affects you network performance. Let’s see through a practical example. The 3 steps below show you how to effectively measure your WIFI bandwidth need.

  1. Calculate all the devices that connected to the WI-FI at the same time

If your hotel has 20 rooms, 2 people per room, the total of guests in the hotel is 40. If each guest has 1.2 devices (Ex: mobile phone or tablet), there we have around 40 devices in total. We can suppose that only 25 of 40 are connected at the same time.

  1. Different services that the guest expect to use.
E-mail, instant messaging Light usage
Web browsing Light usage
Facebook Light Medium usage
YouTube Medium usage
Upload photos Medium usage
Skype Medium Heavy usage
Server Medium Heavy usage
Google Drive, Drop box… Heavy usage
Video streaming (HD) Heavy usage
  1. How to we calculate your bandwidth need.

    • Number of concurrent devices (light usage) x 500 Kbps
    • Number of concurrent devices (medium usage) x 900 Kbps
    • Numbers of concurrent devices (heavy usage) X 2000 Kbps

For example we take our example above.

  Devices Usages/kbps Total/kbps
Light usage 10 500 5000
Medium usage 10 900 9000
Heavy usage 25 2000 10000
Total 24000

24 Mbps is our approximate Wi-Fi bandwidth needed.
